Founder’s Letter – July 2014

Hello CJC Friends,

I’m so excited to share all the great things that are happening with the girls of Crown Jewel Club! It has been a magical year with many dreams for my girls coming true. From class of ’06 Elizabeth Rodriguez graduating from high school with honors and attending UCLA; ’07 Analee Ochoa dazzling with two Gold Academic Decathlon medals; and we had several girls at our year end party that were in my very first class and are now attending college!!

We are excited and proud to announce Citlali and Katrina are attending Los Angeles City College; Jacqueline is at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College; and Elizabeth Rodriguez is at UCLA. Other CJC grads going to college in the fall are Analee Ochoa who is going to San Diego State and Nataly Arias who will be at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Congratulations to all of these amazingly talented girls!!

Nataly Arias Cal State Dominguez Hills.

It has been nine years but it seems like yesterday when Katrina, Jacqueline, and Citlali won my heart with their eagerness to learn. How they looked at me with wonder, like I had something to teach them that they knew they needed to learn. All three of my precious girls are doing well and attending college. Citlali is even a teaching assistant at Trinity Street Elementary. I remember how after our first tea in 2005, we were sitting around and fantasized how someday the girls would come back and share their bright future. It was even more glorious then I imagined.

Our First Class!

Our First Class!

I’m so full of gratitude for the many loving people who help either with sponsoring a girl, donations or volunteering. Of course, I’m extremely appreciative of the staff at Trinity and St. Eugene schools.

Bob Meistrell

On a sad note, Crown Jewel Club lost a dear friend, Bob Meistrell, founder of Body Glove. What a great man! Bob cared so about the future of our children. Bob understood the importance of social skills and the need to believe in a dream. He should, as he and his twin brother started their dream diving as kids in the farm’s pond using an oilcan for a helmet and a bicycle pump and a hose for air. Bob donated many trips on his beloved yacht to keep the program serving many girls. Oh how I miss his joy for life!

I look forward to our 10th year, filled with lots of hugs and love! We are hoping to get sponsors for all 70 girls this year so please consider sponsoring a girl. It is touching how much it means to a gem, to know that someone does care about them. It is really a very, very sweet feeling. The cost is still only $100 to sponsor a gem for the year. We hope you will be able to support us! Join our fabulous roster of current sponsors and volunteers and Sponsor-A-Girl: it will make a POSITIVE change in a young girl’s life and will fill your life with love!!

Please also “Save The Date” as we will be having a 10 year Anniversary Party on June 2, 2015. (10 years… Can you believe it?? We hope to celebrate with you all!)

Thanks to everyone, from the donors, schools, girls, volunteers and teachers for a great 2014 school year. To the girls of Crown Jewel Club, keep up the good work and be sure to COME BACK!

Jane Phillips

Love, Jane
